Jersey Marinas has launched an art competition among Jersey’s primary schools to find a winning design for the 2012 Barclays Wealth Jersey Boat Show flag.
The winning design will be created into the official flag for the 3 day show, which takes place in and around St Helier Marina over the Bank Holiday weekend of 5 - 7 May.
As well as receiving a prize voucher, the winning youngster will also play an important role in the opening ceremony on Saturday 5 May and hoist the flag, which will fly in the arena throughout the weekend. In addition, the winner’s school or activity club will also receive a prize.
This is the second year that organiser’s of Jersey’s largest free maritime event have launched a children’s art competition, which was won in 2011 by 10-year old Angus Montgomery. Group Commercial Director for Ports of Jersey, Myra Shacklady, says, "The Boat Show is a community event, appealing to all ages and we thought this was a great way to involve local youngsters. The judging panel was very impressed with last year’s entries and chose a great design. I am sure this year’s pictures will be equally impressive."
The art competition is open to all Jersey primary school children up to and including 11 years of age. The picture, which must have a maritime theme, should be drawn on A3 landscaped size paper, using materials such as paint, colour pens, pencils or crayons. The closing date for the competition is Monday 16 April 2012 and further details are available online.
